The Twelve Intentions

An intention is not a goal. Goals exist somewhere in the future. An intention lives in the present moment — shaping not what you hope to achieve, but how you choose to live.

The Twelve Intentions are a framework for intentional living and personal growth—twelve mindful practices designed to help us become more present, make more conscious choices, deepen our relationships, and continue becoming who we are capable of being.

A GOAL

     - Exists in the future

     - Focuses on what to achieve

     - Can be completed and left behind

     - Measures success at the finish line

vs

AN INTENTION

     - Lives in the present moment

     - Shapes how you choose to live

     - Becomes a lifelong practice

     - Deepens with every return to it

Foundation

"Every meaningful life is built one intentional choice at a time."

Before we can choose where we are going, we must learn to recognize where we are. Breathe, Focus, and Ground build the inner steadiness from which every other intention grows.

Foundation — Breathe, Focus, and Ground, the first three of The Twelve Intentions.
Pause before the next word, the next decision, the next reaction. Breathe is the practice of returning — to this moment, to this breath, to the only place where any choice can actually be made.
"Presence begins the moment we stop moving past ourselves."

Breathe

Foundation — Breathe, Focus, and Ground, the first three of The Twelve Intentions.
Attention is one of the most valuable resources we possess. What we repeatedly choose to notice, nurture, and pursue quietly shapes the direction of our lives. Focus asks us to choose more deliberately.
"Your life moves in the direction of your attention."

Focus

Foundation — Breathe, Focus, and Ground, the first three of The Twelve Intentions.
To ground is to reconnect with what steadies us — the people, places, practices, values, and experiences that return us to ourselves when everything around us feels uncertain.
"Before you can reach higher, you must first become rooted."

Growth

"Growth begins the moment we decide that remaining the same is no longer enough."

Courage brings us to the threshold. Create asks what we bring into existence once we cross it. Thrive reminds us that a full life is not deferred — it is practiced today.

Growth — Courage, Create, and Thrive, the next three of The Twelve Intentions.

Courage is not the absence of fear — it is the decision that something matters more than the fear itself. Growth almost always begins on the other side of a choice we were afraid to make.

"Fear asks us to retreat. Courage invites us to become."

Courage

Growth — Courage, Create, and Thrive, the next three of The Twelve Intentions.

Creation is not limited to art or invention. We create trust when we choose honesty, connection when we make room for someone, and possibility every time we allow ourselves to imagine what could be.

"Everything meaningful begins as something imagined."

Create

Growth — Courage, Create, and Thrive, the next three of The Twelve Intentions.

Thriving is not a destination reserved for some distant future when everything is resolved. It is the daily practice of aligning choices with values — imperfectly, persistently, and with growing awareness.

"Living fully is the reward for living intentionally."

Thrive

Connection

"The quality of our lives is shaped not only by what we accomplish, but by how deeply we connect."

The intentions of connection remind us that we are not meant to move through life alone. Balance, Gratitude, and Compassion are the practices that sustain and deepen every relationship — beginning with the one we have with ourselves.

Connection — Balance, Gratitude, and Compassion, three of The Twelve Intentions.

Balance is not a destination we arrive at and remain. It is an ongoing practice of return — noticing when we have drifted, making adjustments, and realigning with what matters most without judgment.

"Harmony isn't found. It's practiced."

Balance

Connection — Balance, Gratitude, and Compassion, three of The Twelve Intentions.

Gratitude is not passive appreciation. When practiced deliberately, it changes the way we experience our lives — not by ignoring what is difficult, but by choosing to remain present to what is also true.

"What we appreciate has the power to change us."

Gratitude

Connection — Balance, Gratitude, and Compassion, three of The Twelve Intentions.

Compassion begins with the willingness to be present with someone's experience — including our own. Before we can extend it genuinely to others, we must first learn to offer it to ourselves.

"Grace given to ourselves is grace we can offer others."

Compassion

Expansion

"An intentional life is never finished. It is continually becoming."

Wonder keeps the mind open. Hope keeps the spirit oriented forward. Transform reminds us that we are not the same person who began this journey — and that there is still so much more to become.

Expansion — Wonder, Hope, and Transform, three of The Twelve Intentions.

To approach life with wonder is to remain a student of it — open to surprise, to what we have not yet imagined, and to the possibility that the most meaningful lessons are still ahead.

"Curiosity keeps the soul awake."

Wonder

Expansion — Wonder, Hope, and Transform, three of The Twelve Intentions.

Hope is not wishful thinking. It is a practiced orientation toward the future — a choice to believe that what we do today carries weight, and that the next chapter has not yet been written.

"Tomorrow begins with what we choose to believe today."

Hope

Expansion — Wonder, Hope, and Transform, three of The Twelve Intentions.

Transformation is rarely a single dramatic moment. It is the accumulated weight of small, intentional choices — made again and again — until we look back and see how far we have come from who we were.

"An intentional life is never finished. It is continually becoming."

Transform

"Notice which intention is calling to you in this season of your life."

There is no correct order. No finish line. The intentions are not destinations — they are companions. If one is speaking to you now, that is exactly where to begin.
